Heritage Hero Awards Programme
This is Slow Food (Singapore)‘s programme which aims to highlight the various categories of food businesses that are maintaining the cuisines and dishes of Singapore’s early immigrant groups.
Selected food businesses that have spent many years producing cuisines and dishes that are considered to be traditional or fast disappearing will be awarded the Slow Food (Singapore) title of Heritage Hero. Depending on the category, Slow Food (Singapore) may also recognise newer businesses that have ventured into selling traditional foods.
The inaugural Heritage Hero Awards Programme 2014 was launched on 9th August 2014, Singapore’s 49th National Day, and recognises 34 local bakeries and confectioneries that continue to produce and promote traditional cakes, pastries and kuehs from our various cultures.
The 2nd Edition of the Slow Food (Singapore)’s Heritage Hero Awards Programme was launched on 10th December 2015, Slow Food’s Terra Madre Day, and aims to renew our recognition of local bakeries and confectioneries, that continue to produce and promote traditional dishes and foods from our various cultures, and to protect our intangible cultural heritage.
The 3rd Edition of Heritage Hero Awards Programme in 2016, saw the inclusion of 52 heritage restaurants added into a new Restaurants Category. The 52 heritage restaurants chosen, have been in business for at least 30 years and reflect the cultural identities of the ethnic and dialect groups they represent.
Outlets that have been awarded Heritage Hero status can be identified by the Slow Food (Singapore) Heritage Hero Label displayed at the outlet.
